Strengthening Local Partnerships for Sustainable Community Impact in Kasenda

On 16 September 2025, Avajan Foundation International convened an inception meeting with local government authorities at Kasenda Town Council at the Council Headquarters to formally introduce the Foundation and establish a collaborative framework for implementing community-driven development interventions. This engagement marked a critical step in aligning Avajan Foundation International’s strategic priorities with local government development plans to ensure sustainable, scalable, and locally owned impact.

The Kasenda Town Council leadership provided a comprehensive overview of priority community challenges, many of which align directly with Avajan Foundation International’s core thematic areas. These challenges present clear opportunities for strategic donor and partner investment to strengthen service delivery and improve community resilience:

Priority Areas for Investment and Collaboration

  • Prevention of Domestic and Gender-Based Violence: Demand for community-based interventions that promote peaceful coexistence, social cohesion, and household stability.
  • Institutional Capacity Gaps: Limited financial and logistical resources constrain effective implementation, supervision, and monitoring of government programs, highlighting the need for capacity-strengthening support
  • Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH): Unsafe water sources contribute to preventable waterborne diseases, creating an urgent need for integrated WASH programming.
  • Agriculture and Livelihoods: Opportunities exist to leverage existing groups under the Parish Development Model to improve agricultural productivity, value addition, and household incomes.
  • Child Nutrition and Health: High levels of child stunting underscore the need for nutrition-sensitive interventions targeting vulnerable households.
  • Financial Inclusion: Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) require technical assistance to mature into sustainable financial institutions such as SACCOs and Microfinance Deposit Institutions (MDIs)
  • Adult Literacy and Skills Development: Functional Adult Literacy (FAL) programs require revitalization to enhance productivity and community participation.
  • HIV/AIDS Response: Persistently high prevalence rates call for strengthened prevention, awareness, and community support mechanisms
  • Education Access: School dropout rates remain high due to household financial constraints, signaling the need for education support and retention initiatives.
  • Disability Inclusion: People with disabilities face limited access to social and economic support services.
  • Poverty Reduction: Widespread poverty continues to undermine development gains and household resilience.

A Platform for Partnership

The inception meeting established a strong foundation for partnership between Avajan Foundation International and Kasenda Town Council, grounded in mutual accountability and shared development goals. Through coordinated planning and co-investment, Avajan Foundation International seeks to work with donors, development partners, and the private sector to deliver evidence-based, inclusive, and scalable interventions that address immediate needs while strengthening local systems for long-term impact.

Avajan Foundation International invites partners to join this collaborative effort to advance sustainable development outcomes in Kasenda and contribute to resilient, self-reliant communities
